Lakeview Quilters Guild serves our community through charitable activities involving quilting. Each year the guild selects organizations to receive and distribute quilts made by our members. We make quilts for selected organizations and we donate sundries to charitable groups.
Suggested Community Service Quilt Sizes
We gladly accept community service quilts of any size.
Using 8" squares (7.5" finished) the suggested sizes are:
6x8 = 45" x 60" (for The Rose)
5x7 = 37.5" x 52.5" (for children at Bay Area Turning Point)
10x12 = 77" x 90" (twin size for Brooke Army Medical Center)
These are suggested sizes but we will gladly accept community service quilts of any size.

For 2016, Lakeview Quilters Guild exceeded our goal of donating 250 quilts in 2016! We made and donated 263 quilts, plus afghans, pillowcases, toiletries, and baby items.

These organizations provide meaningful assistance to people, and our guild can support their work with donations of quilts and baby gowns and hats for premature infants. Each generous donation involves gifts of resources (fabric, batting, and thread) and time.
In 2015, we donated 65 quilts and 5 afghans to Bay Area Turning Point, 7 quilts to Brooke Army Medical Center soldiers, 32 quilts to Child Advocates, and 38 to The Rose. In addition 88 quilt tops are finished and ready to quilt for future donations. The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston was the recipient of 134 preemie caps, 248 preemie gowns, 112 tiny bags, and a multitude of toiletries.
For the calendar year 2013, our guild provided approximately 162 quilts of comfort to clients of the following organizations:

Brooke Army Medical Center (Forty-seven soldiers received quilts from our guild in 2013. They were personally delivered by a guild member and dearly appreciated by each soldier. Thank you, quilt makers!)
In addition, guild members provided 35 preemie gowns and 42 preemie hats to premature babies in neonatal care institutions. The receiving organizations of our gifts continue to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the gifts they received.

We took over 200 quilts to these deserving organizations and their appreciative clients. Throughout the year, members also donated fabric, batting, thread, and much of their time and effort to our community service projects, making not only quilts but also gowns, hats, and mitts for premature newborn babies.
For the calendar year 2011, our guild chose to donate quilts of comfort to clients of The Rose, Bay Area Turning Point, and Brooke Army Medical Center. Through our members' generosity, 250 quilts touched the hearts and hands of many. While several of our guild members made quilts of comfort for others, other guild members brought fabric for kits, kits for members to sew, completed tops for quilters to quilt, quilts that are ready to have the binding applied, and finished quilts. We are thankful for the support the guild members provided to support the wider community.
For the calendar year 2010, our guild chose four organizations to receive our quilts of comfort: The Rose, Bay Area Turning Point, Brooke Army Medical Center, and D'Feet Breast Cancer Center. We donated over 200 quilts to these organizations -- and donated a fund-raising quilt to The United Way which was purchased by a guild member who donated it, on behalf of the guild, to The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake for one of their fundraisers. In addition, guild members served the community by supporting a quilt-making program for students in the Clear Creek Independent School District. Members also made gowns, caps, and mitts for premature babies, and toiletry items which were donated to Bay Area Turning Point. Quilters are known for their generosity - and our guild demonstrates this throughout the year.
For the calendar year 2009, our guild provided quilts of comfort to three very deserving organizations: The Rose, Bay Area Turning Point, and Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. Quilts were presented to these organizations throughout the year. In addition, members made gowns, caps, and mitts for premature babies, and toiletry items were donated to Bay Area Turning Point. Also, a quilt was donated to St. Paul Catholic Church in Nassau Bay.
For the calendar year 2008, our guild provided quilts of comfort to the following four deserving organizations:
The Rose, a non-profit organization that provides breast cancer screening, diagnosis and support; in 2008 they received 118 quilts.
The Bay Area Turning Point, a local organization devoted to empowering survivors of family violence, sexual assault, and displacement; in 2008, they received 105 quilts plus an assortment of toiletry items.
St. Mary's Church in League City received 12 quilts; they were donated for use by the youth who were taken in by the church for the school year, following the destruction caused by Hurricane Ike.
The soldiers recuperating at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, received 30 quilts to provide comfort and warmth.
Completed quilts were presented to the designated organizations throughout the year. In addition, a quilt was donated to St. Paul Catholic Church in Nassau Bay for providing the guild with meeting places throughout the year.
The primary recipient of our 2007 community service quilts was The Rose, a non-profit organization that provides breast cancer screening, diagnosis and support. During 2007, members made and donated 209 quilts, 5 knitted or crocheted afghans/throws, and 2 fleece blankets. These items were all donated to The Rose, except 8 quilts that were given to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston, Texas.
In addition to the quilts and throws, our members donated gowns, knitted caps, and mitts for premature babies; and numerous toiletry articles were donated to the Bay Area Turning Point, a local organization devoted to empowering survivors of family violence, sexual assault, and displacement.
A quilt was donated to St. Paul Catholic Church in Nassau Bay, and guild members assembled and quilted a number of quilts for Bo's Place.

Our members made and donated 129 quilts, 9 afghans, and 2 wool blankets to The Rose. We also donated 8 quilts to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston, numerous bags of toiletries for Bay Area Turning Point, and at least 8 preemie caps for premature babies.
A quilt was donated to St. Paul Catholic Church.

After the Columbia tragedy, members met and constructed quilts for the children of the seven astronauts. 14 quilts were completed in record time and given to the children in memory of their parent.
A quilt was donated to St. Paul Catholic Church for their Feast Day Auction. A second quilt was donated for St. Paul's February 2004 Auction.
A guild member donated a bed size quilt to Boys and Girls Harbor for their fund-raiser.
The guild approved a donation to support the mini-class in quilting offered for students in the Webster Academy of Visions and Education (WAVE) program at Webster Intermediate School in Clear Creek Independent School District.
The guild approved the purchase quilting books for donation to the Freeman Memorial Library.
Guild membership again voted to support Bay Area Turning Point with donation quilts and personal care toiletries.
Members donated 178 Community Service quilts to Bay Area Turning Point.
Fabric was provided to Clear Lake Intermediate School math department for a mini-math class on designing and constructing quilts using mathematics. The students made 18 quilt tops. The tops were quilted by our members and donated to Bay Area Turning Point.
Two quilts was donated to St. Paul Catholic Church for their fund-raising activities.
Preemie were made and delivered to UTMB/Galveston for the Premature Infant Intensive Care Unit.
25 members participated in the construction of a quilt for Interfaith Caring Ministries' Festival of Trees. The quilt brought a whopping $3,500 at auction.
The membership selected Bay Area Turning Point as the recipient for donation quilts made by our members.
165 quilts were donated to Bay Area Turning Point.
Many bags of soaps, shampoo and toilet articles were collected at each meeting and taken to Bay Area Turning Point for the residents.
The guild assisted Interfaith Caring Ministry with food and a toy drive before the Christmas Holidays.
A quilt was donated to Interfaith Caring Ministry for their annual Christmas Auction.
A Christmas tree was decorated for Interfaith Caring Ministry's annual fund raising function "Dinner Among the Trees".
One hundred sixty-eight quilts were donated to Project Linus and delivered to Texas Children's and Herman Children's Hospital.
Twenty quilts were donated to Harborview Assisted Living.
A queen sized quilt was donated to St. Paul Catholic Church for their annual auction.
Thirty-six preemie gowns were sewn by Guild members and delivered to UTMB/GalvestonPremature Infant Intensive Care Unit.
Wheelchair bags were sewn by guild members and delivered to various nursing homes.
Two hundred seventy miniature quilts and a quilted angel tree topper were constructed by guild members and used to decorate a tree for Interfaith Caring Ministry's annual Christmas dinner and auction.
